Trend Report: Spikes Are All the Rage

Tough spikes are the latest new trend in jewelry for Spring 2012. Making it’s way from a punk teen’s wrist a decade ago, spikes now teeter that fine line between feminine and tough; it’s sophisticated yet maintains that rough-around-the-edges vibe. The current trend features juxtaposed materials, such as burnished brass and crystals, or delicate pave balls and chains with spiky accents. It’s the one cross-over trend that’s highly acceptable in the office, layered under a blazer or glimmering on your wrist under a shirt sleeve…. It’ll make you feel like a rebellious teenager all over again.

Check out these amazing & beautiful spike jewelry pieces:

Left to Right: Joanna Spike Bib Necklace from Dannijo, Ariel Gordon Tetra Spike Necklace from Max & Chloe, Kenneth Jay Lane Stunted Spiked Bangle Bracelet from Max & Chloe, and Elizabeth Knight Spike Earrings from Urban Outfitters.

So, how do you wear this look, without it wearing you? Choose one or two “tough” accessories to add to your otherwise feminine (i.e. ruffles, silk, lace, etc.) or sophisticated (i.e. structured, sleek lines and minimal colors) look and it will all come together seamlessly. Try a leather-wrap pyramid spike bracelet for the weekend, a spiky delicate hoop for the office, a layering necklace for lunch or an armful of metal for evening.

Get your spike on for less cash with these Stella & Dot jewelry pieces:
